SYNOPSIS

This workshop introduces participant to the world of pop-ups and how they can learn to create pop-ups. Participants will enjoy the making of pop-ups using parallel and angle folds which are used in pop-up cards, pop-up books, board games, stage props and storytelling. The workshop will include the following objectives for participants to learn:

  • Learn the basic principles of making pop-ups
  • Learn the basic material list and resources for making pop-ups
  • Learn two fundamental concepts in pop-ups: parallel fold and angle fold
  • Make pop-up cards using the parallel and angle folds

This is an introductory session, suitable for beginners and will be highly interactive with some formal presentations by the trainer and lots of hands-on activity by the participants.Participant should be at least 10 years old and above.

About the trainer: Ricky Chng

Ricky Chng

Ricky Chng is a self-taught paper engineer who tinkers with paper to create paper work such as pop-ups, paper automata and paper craft. In 2015, he self-published a pop-up book titled 'Singapore Counts: 1 to 10 Pop-up Book' with the SG50 Celebration fund and gave the books to thirteen childcare centres for educational use. He is an in-house artist at Tinkering Studio@Science Centre and conducted a 5-day workshop at Tinkering Studio in December 2016 to make Christmas pop-up cards. He has attended Maker Faire Singapore since 2016 to share his love of paper work. With a collection of more than 100 movable books as inspiration for his works, he loves to share with his audience the joy of appreciating and making pop-ups.

Minimum – Maximum Number of Participants: 15 – 20 pax

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation of workshop, two weeks before the workshop date.

All ALAP workshops serve tea-breaks and provide course handouts.

Cancellation & Substitution

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances ( E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us later than two weeks before the workshop date will receive a 50 % refund. Participants can also opt to attend another course at the same value within the same year.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation, withdrawal and substitution policy and accept the terms contained therein.
