SYNOPSIS

This full-day course is suitable for those who are looking to gain some intermediate to advanced knowledge about writing and illustrating children’s picture books, especially for a market like Malaysia. Malaysia's foremost naive art artist Yusof Gajah will share his knowledge and experience in writing and illustrating  English and Malay children’s picture books. Come learn how he conceptualised and created numerous award winning children’s books.
 
This workshop is held under the Beyond Words project. Beyond Words in an NAC initiative to support creation and development of children’s picture books and YA fiction across the different media (print to apps/enhanced apps). Following the Beyond Words English and Chinese Picture Books and YA Fiction scheme, we are now launching the Malay and Tamil edition. This workshop is a part of the Beyond Words initiative and is open to all publishers, writers and illustrators.

About the Trainer:

Yusof Gajah is Malaysia’s foremost naive art artist. Growing up in Johol, a village in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia and in Singapore. He studied art at Sekolah Seni Rupa in Yogjakarta, Indonesia. When he returned to Malaysia in 1975, he started his career as a fulltime artist. Since then, Yusof has built up a formidable reputation in the art world and his paintings are widely sought after, both locally and internationally. In addition to his painting, Yusof has written and illustrated a number of children’s picture books. He has received numerous awards, including the Best Children’s Book Illustration from the National Book Council of Malaysia and the Noma Concours Grand Prix Award (ACCU) in Tokyo, Japan for his book, The Real Elephant. He also conducts art workshops and especially enjoys working with children. His constant companion and supporter is his wife, Zakiah. They have three children.

Registration Details

Minimum – Maximum Number of Participants: 10 – 30 pax

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation, two weeks before the workshop date.

Cancellation & Substitution

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to five (5) working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Participants can also attend another course at the same value within the same year.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation, withdrawal and substitution policy and accept the terms contained therein.
