Synopsis
Do you spend a part of every day writing emails, memos, reports and other business documents? Would you like to learn to bring your points across quickly, clearly and effectively and get the results you want every time? This course will bring the planning, drafting and writing process to life in an interesting, dynamic and accessible manner and equip you with useful tips to make your business documents incisive, relevant and impactful. Information will be shared lecturette style with opportunities for discussions and hands-on exercises. Samples and checklists will also be available for easy reference.


By the end of this workshop you will be able to

  • adapt your business documents to different audiences and situations
  • plan and organise your writing to achieve your goals
  • write in a way that is clear, concise and easy to understand
  • structure your writing to enhance the readability of your work
  • avoid common language errors to ensure precision and professionalism
  • proofread your work to ensure that it is clear, accurate and error free


Course Outline

Planning your business document—the 5Ws: What, Where, Why, Who, When
Organise your thoughts according to what you are writing, the purpose of your document and who you are writing for.

The writing process—the 5Cs: Clarity, Conciseness, Coherence, Correctness and Courtesy
Use simple, direct words and phrases to put your message across. Ensure that your document is accurate and logical and that your writing is courteous and professional.

Setting the tone
Using the correct tone can help get the results you want. Modify your tone to fit the occasion and get your message across courteously and professionally.

Clever formatting
Organise your message and make your key points stand out using appropriate fonts, headings, paragraphs and bullets.

Proofreading
Errors in spelling and punctuation distract the reader and prevents your message from getting across. Be aware of some common mistakes and learn to proofread your work quickly and effectively.

Registration Details

Minimum – Maximum Number of Participants: 15 – 25 pax

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation, two weeks before the workshop date.

Cancellation & Substitution

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to five (5) working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Participants can also attend another course at the same value within the same year.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation, withdrawal and substitution policy and accept the terms contained therein.
